Detailed Journey
Day 1
Arrive Delhi
Arrive in Delhi. You’ll be met by our driver and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon you’ll have a few options. You can visit some ancient Indian sites, or you can go to the more modern colonial edifices, or perhaps you’d prefer to revel in the cultural potpourri of the old bazaars.
Day 2
Delhi
A guided tour of both Old and New Delhi. The day commences with a visit to Jama Masjid, after which a rickshaw ride will take you to labyrinthine alleys of Chandni Chowk. Then we’ll visit a few cultural monuments and then visit Humayun’s tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 3
Delhi - Paro
Enjoy the absolutely stunning views of the awe-inspiring Himalayas, including Mount Everest. Your guide will welcome you to the country upon arrival and if you feel up for it, can take you on a tour of the city.
Day 4
Paro
First we’ll visit the Sunday market to experience some unique local delicacies like chugo (dried yak cheese), and exotic ferns. Later we’ll climb up to the Tiger`s Nest Monastery, a peaceful edifice perched on the edge of a mountain.
Day 5
Paro - Punakha
Drive to Punakha, along the mesmerizing Dochu La pass. Visit the Chimi Lhakhang temple before settling into your hotel in Punakha. Then we’ll visit the Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
Day 6
Punakha
Start your day with a lovely walk from Nobgang to Punakha in the lush valleys between the two places. You’ll also have the option of trekking to Lumukha Village, where the locals are welcoming and friendly.
Day 7
Punakha - Trongsa – Jakar Bumthang Valley
Drive to Trongsa and visit the Ta Dzong, which houses a small museum with interesting local cultural displays. Later continue your journey to Jakar through the Bumthang Valley. Stay overnight in a traditional farmhouse, where you can take a traditional hot stone bath.
Day 8
Jakar – Bumthang Valley
Early in the morning we’ll start our three day trek. The track we’ll take offers a unique chance to experience Bhutan’s natural splendor, peaceful culture, and interact with the friendly local people. The trek is moderately difficulty, so you need to be in decent shape.
Day 9
Jakar – Bumthang Valley
Our trek continues through the Bumthang Valley. The fresh mountain air and lush vistas will put you in a peaceful mood all day. Then you’ll understand why Bhutan consistently ranks in the top echelon of the World Happiness Index.
Day 10
Jakar – Bumthang Valley
The third and final day of the trek. Enjoy the last hours of this spectacular journey before we reach Jakar, and unwind after our epic trip with some delicious food and quality relaxation time.
Day 11
Jakar – Bumthang Valley
A full day excursion to Thrumshing National Park. We’ll get up close and personal with the majestic animals of Bhutan, do some bird watching, and even visit Ura Lhakhang on the way back if time permits.
Day 12
Jakar - Bumthang Valley - Phobjikha
We’ll drive to Phobjikha in the western part of Bhutan in the late morning. The scenic views on the drive will make it fly by in no time. We’ll stay here for the night, where we’ll sit around a traditional bukhari stove to stay warm in the quiet night.
Day 13
Phobjikha - Thimphu
Rise early and hit the road to drive back to Thimphu. Much of the drive is filled with breathtaking views and we’ll stop often to relish the sights and take pictures to remember this trip forever. In the afternoon we’ll head over to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Serbithang.
Day 14
Thimphu
We’ll start our second trek, which will take us across the mountains separating the valleys of Thimphu and Paro. Walk past the scenic countryside filled with ancient forts and beautiful lakes. You will also visit temples and holy places in Phajoding, which boasts some of the rarest Thanka paintings.
Day 15
Thimphu - Paro - Kolkata
Fly from Paro to Kolkota, and be amazed at how the massive difference in cultures affects you. The transition from serene Bhutan to the cacophony of Kolkata is quite intense and magical.
Day 16
Kolkata
Visit the Flower Market in the morning, and then the Victoria Memorial. Afterwards we’ll drive to the Howrah Bridge and then visit Mother Teresa’s Ashram. You can also visit Kumartuli, and interact with the local potter’s community if time permits.
Day 17
Kolkata – Back Home
Drive to the airport to board your plane home. As your flight soars through the sky you will find yourself in the grip of nostalgia, wondering just how soon you can return and once again lose yourself in the leisurely Bhutanese pace of life.
