Detailed Journey
Day 1
Kolkata
Arrive in Kolkata. In the afternoon explore the colonial legacy and heritage of the city, which was the British during their rule. It’s also known as the ‘City of Processions’ and the ‘City of Joy.’
Day 2
Kolkata
Start your day with a visit to the local flower market, followed by a trip to the Victoria Memorial, an homage to Queen Victoria. Then drive to the Howrah Bridge, a marvel of engineering. And finally we’ll visit Mother Teresa’s Ashram.
Day 3
Kolkata -Kalimpong
Fly from Kolkata to Bagdogra, where we’ll start our drive north through lush forested hills to the city of Kalimpong. The evening is for relaxing and unwinding, and reminiscing upon the mesmerizing vistas of the drive.
Day 4
Kalimpong
Start your day with a walk through some local villages. Later we’ll go on an exploration of the ancient Buddhist monasteries that dot the landscape. Then we’ll learn about traditional Tibetan medicine at the one of a kind School of Tibetan Medicine in the Ringkinpong Monastery.
Day 5
Kalimpong – Gangtok
A drive through scenic tea estates will take you to Gangtok, the capital of the state of Sikkim. It’s a journey back in time to when life was simple and days were full of free time. We’ll stop plenty of times en route for you to capture these romantic vistas on camera.
Day 6
Gangtok
Today we’ll start nice and slow, with a tour of the spectactular Buddhist Rumtek Monastery. This will be followed by a visit to the Research Institute of Tibetology, and then a trip to the Do-Drul Chorten. You’ll be accompanied by stunning landscapes throughout the day.
Day 7
Gangtok - Yangsum
You will literally drive above the clouds on your way to a tranquil hillside farm to get a taste of a peaceful local lifestyle. Lose yourself in the melodic chirping of the birds and the whirring buzz of the cicadas in this beautiful patch of nature.
Day 8
Yangsum
Today is a free day, you can spend it however you want to. Explore the village and the local monastery, or get involved in the activities at the Yangsum farm. Or perhaps you’d prefer to mingle with the locals to gain an understanding of their worldview.
Day 9
Rinchenpong - Darjeeling
Drive to Darjeeling, one of India’s oldest and most visited hill stations. Despite becoming a tourism hotspot, the town has still managed to retain some of its colonial charm. The city’s Toy Train is a whimsical experience that is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Day 10
Darjeeling
Start your day with an excursion to Tiger Hill. If we’re lucky enough to get clear skies, the breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest await you. Later we’ll visit the Ghoom monastery, famous for its 15 ft. statue of the Maitreya Buddha.
Day 11
Darjeeling
One of the most enchanting experiences of the trip awaits you today. We’ll have the unique opportunity to ride the world famous Darjeeling Hill Railway through the gorgeous winding hills of the area. Afterwards we’ll visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.
Day 12
Darjeeling Delhi
To end our journey we’ll drive to Bagdogra. If time permits and you feel inclined, we can take the scenic road that passes through lush forests and past the picturesque Mirik Lake. Then you’ll catch a flight to Delhi and then head home from there.
