Check into your hotel and then jump straight into the journey by exploring Delhi. Immerse yourself in the Mughal history, and learn about its colonial past. Wander through its mystical streets, teeming with lively people, delicious food and bustling markets.
Delhi – Amritsar
Take the train to Amritsar. On arrival we’ll explore the JallianwalaBagh if time permits, and then head for the India-Pakistan Wagah border. The evening gate closing ceremony is a spectacular event.
Amritsar – Dharamsala
We’ll visit the Golden Temple for the morning prayers before leaving for Dharamshala, the headquarters of the exiled Tibetan Govt. and the Dalai Lama. We’ll also make a stop on the way to see the ancient Brijeshwar Temple.
Wake up to powerful chants emanating from the Dalai Lama’s monastery. Later we’ll visit the Norbulingka Institute, a museum created to preserve Tibetan culture. In fact, the entire city looks like Tibet did before it was taken over by China.
Dharamsala – Manali
Today we’ll drive up the winding roads to Manali, through thick forests filled with lush pines and towering cedars. This charming mountain town is a ski resort that is very popular amongst Indians from all over the country during the winter.
Manali - Jispa - Keylong
Today wee’ll witness a dramatic change in the landscape, as we drive through the Rohtang pass (3980 m) on our way to Keylong, the administrative capital of Lahaul and Spiti. Upon arrival you’ll have free time to stroll around the village and soak in the sites and sounds.
Keylong - Sarchu
Drive through the Baralacha pass, which will take you to the Chandra and Lingty Valleys. We’ll spend the night at Camp Sarchu, a grassy plateau at 4500m. It is one of the most enchanting sights of the trip.
Sarchu – Tsomoriri
The morning is dedicated to relaxation and leisure time. Then we’ll leave for Tsomoriri, visiting Tsokar Lake on the way. Take a walk around this beautiful body of water, or jump in if you can brave the extreme cold. After we’ll drive through the Polo Koanga Pass and spend some time in the village of Sungo.
The Journey to Leh is truly breathtaking. On the way we’ll stop at one of the roadside stalls to drink a hot butter tea and take in the view. On arrival relax and unwind after this beautiful journey through the Himalayas.
Today you’ll have the unique opportunity of taking part in the morning prayers at Thikse Monastery. It is a beautiful 12 story building that exemplifies classical Ladakhi architecture. Afterwards we’ll visit the Shey monastery, which was once a residence for the royal family of the region.
Leh – Lamayuru - Alchi
Arrive in Lamayuru after a scenic drive along the Indus Valley. We’ll take some time to discover the spiritual power of the local monastery, and then take the road to Alchi, with another stop at the Rizong monastery along the way.
Today we’ll explore Alchi, a small town located on the bank of the Indus River. It is renown for its ancient temples and its thriving local market.
Alchi – Leh
We’ll head to Leh this morning, visiting the ruins of Basgo and the Likir Monasteries on the way. Upon arrival in Leh, you will have the rest of the day to yourself. Enjoy a walk through the local bazaars, explore the local culture, or relax in your hotel if you just need some rest.
Your last day. Make it one to remember. Roam through the precincts of the majestic Leh Palace. Explore the Shanti Stupa and then take the highest road in the world through a series of breathtaking views on the way to the Kardung la pass.
Leh – Delhi
Take a flight to Delhi in the morning where it will finally be time to catch your flight home. Reminisce about the many magical moments you experienced over the last two weeks and look forward to your next trip to the magical Mother India.
