Detailed Journey
Day 1
Kathmandu - Lhasa
Take a flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa where our representative will take you from Gongaar Airport to your hotel. Get to know the other guests and our representatives. Go out on a walk through the city to get a feel of the place. The day is for leisure and altitude acclimatization.
Day 2
Lhasa
Steeped in cultural history Lhasa is a wonderful city that shows how Buddhism was introduced and developed in Tibet, and how it became a way of life. This is also a relaxed day, as it can take a bit of time to acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 3
Lhasa
Spend the better part of the day visiting the numerous architectural wonders of Lhasa. Gaze in awe at the Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lamas, which is considered to be one the world’s most beautiful buildings. You will also visit the Jokhang temple and Barkhor bazaar.
Day 4
Lhasa - Shigatse
Drive to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. In the afternoon, visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the largest & most magnificent of all the Monasteries in Tibet. It contains the world’s largest brass statue of the Maitreya Buddha, which towers at 80 feet high. Tashilhunpo is also the traditional residence of the Panchen Lama.
Day 5
Shigatse – Lhatse – Saga
Start the morning with a drive to Lhatse. The road trip will culminate in Saga. During the course of the day you will also go on a boat ride on the sacred lake of Pai-Kutso, and the legendary river Brahmaputra. Located in the southern part of Nagri, Saga is famous for its diverse array of wild animals.
Day 6
Saga–Lake Mansarovar
Hit the road for one of the most breathtaking experiences of your life. Lake Manasarovar has been the subject of so many literary novels and travelogues, and has long been a dream destination for pilgrims from around the world. Above the massive expanse of water you can also see the Holy Mount Kailasha, where the Hindu God Shiva is said to live.
Day 7
Lake Mansarovar – Sershong - Darchen
We’ll start the morning with an excursion to Tarboche (Sershong), from where you’ll leave for the famous Kora of Mt. Kailash. After we’ll visit the venerated cemetery Drachom Ngagye Durtro, which was blessed by Guru Rinpoche and the first explorer of Kailash, Gotshangpa. At the end of the day drive back to Darchen, where we’ll spend the night.
Day 8
Darchen – Lake Mansarovar - Saga
We’ll then head to Saga on the same highway that we took to Darchen, so you’ll get a second chance to gaze upon the stunning views. We’ll stop to take photos and to simply behold the majestic sights. Lose yourself. Find yourself. Let the enchanting vistas work their magic on you.
Day 9
Saga – Gyantse
Drive to Gyantse after breakfast. Located on a historic trade route between India and Tibet, it has long been a crucial stop for traders and pilgrims journeying across the Himalayan plateau. Visit Gyantse’s greatest sight, Gyantse Kumbum, the largest chorten in Tibet and one of its grandest architectural wonders.
Day 10
Gyantse Lhasa
Your last day on the road. Drive back to Lhasa. Enjoy the views one last time. You can ask your guide to tell you stories of Himalayan legends. Or ask him about Tibet’s unique form of Buddhism. Whatever you want to know, our guides are highly knowledgeable. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is dedicated to leisure time.
Day 11
Lhasa
Your last day in Lhasa. Spend it however you want to. Shop for souvenirs in its bustling market. Befriend locals and listen to their stories. Reminisce with other travellers. Write about your experiences in your travel journal. Get excited to share this wonderful journey with your friends and family back home.
Day 12
Lhasa
A lazy morning. A relaxing breakfast to bid adieu to Lhasa. Our representative will drop you off at the airport where you will board a flight to Kathmandu and transfer onto your flight back home. As your plane soars through the sky you’ll get one last look at the spectacular mountain vistas.
