Detailed Journey
Day 1
Delhi
Check into your hotel and then jump straight into the journey by exploring Delhi. Immerse yourself in the Mughal history, and learn about its colonial past. Wander through its mystical streets, teeming with lively people, delicious food and bustling markets.
Day 2
Delhi
A guided tour of Old and New Delhi. We’ll visit Jama Masjid and take a rickshaw tour through the bustling alleys of Chandni Chowk. Afterwards we’ll go to Humayun’s tomb, a UNESCO Site.
Day 3
Delhi – Agra - Delhi
Today we’ll take a day trip to Agra. Experience the love behind the stories of the Taj Mahal, which famous Bengali poet Tagore described as a ‘teardrop on the cheek of humanity’. Return to Delhi in the evening after visiting a few of the city’s other architectural masterpieces.
Day 4
Delhi –Leh
We’ll take an early flight to Leh, where you’ll spend the day relaxing in order to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. If you feel up for it, you can visit the Shanti Stupa and enjoy some breathtaking views of the city.
Day 5
Leh
Today you’ll have the unique opportunity of taking part in the morning prayers at Thikse Monastery. It is a beautiful 12 story building that exemplifies classical Ladakhi architecture. Afterwards we’ll visit the Shey monastery, which was once a residence for the royal family of the region.
Day 6
Leh - Zingchen
Start with a short drive to Spituk Bridge, where we’ll embark on a trek along the Indus River that takes us to the foot of Stok Mountain. From there, we’ll walk through the wilderness towards Zingchen. The full day trek lasts around 6-7 hours.
Day 7
Zingchen - Rumbak
Leave Zingchen and head for Rumbak, through the Hemis National Park, one of the only places in the world where you can see the endangered Snow Leopard. From there drive along the breathtaking mountain roads to Rumbak, where we’ll make camp below Stok La Pass.
Day 8
Rumbak – Skyu
A leisurely trek will take you to Skyu, a quaint and charming hamlet nestled in the mountains. Spend the evening having dinner with a friendly local family, who will regale you with anecdotes of Himalayan life.
Day 9
Skyu - Chalak
Today we’ll embark on a very exciting trek. The nature is spectacularly sublime, and makes the tough uphill climb well worth the effort. We’ll spend the night in Chalak, getting a well earned rest after a long day of trekking.
Day 10
Chalak-Markha Valley
Leave Chalak for the Markha Valley. Another day of tough uphill trekking. Lose yourself in the hypnotizing sight of the Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world and think about the incredible fact that they were once fully submerged by water.
Day 11
Markha Valley - Nimaling
After two days of tough treks, today will be relatively easy. The walk is mostly downhill, as we’ll descend into the valley between the Indus and Zanskar Rivers. The meeting of the two rivers nestled amongst the mighty Himalayas make for a a particularly invigorating sight. We’ll spend the night in the Nimaling camping grounds.
Day 12
Nimaling - Shang Sumdo
Today we’ll leave for Shang Sumdo. Your local guide will talk about their relationship with the Himalayas. He will tell you some of their many folktales, which are filled with the ancient wisdom of the local people. We’ll spend another night camping under the stars.
Day 13
Shang Sumdo-Uleytokpo
Our exhilarating trek is finally finished. We’ll start the drive to Leh. If you have the energy, we can visit the Stok Palace and Museum on the way. Upon arrival in Uleytokpo the day is your own. Relax and reminisce about the difficult yet extremely fulfilling treks of that last week.
Day 14
Uleytokpo
Spend the day discovering the Likr and Rizong Monasteries, which are believed to date all the way back to the 11th century. On the way back we’ll stop by the Chulichen Nunnery, which is surrounded by a beautiful apricot orchard and gardens where they grow most of their food and live mostly off the land.
Day 15
Uleytokpo – Lamayuru Via DhaHanu
Start your day with a visit to the majestic Leh Palace. Later we’ll explore the Shanti Stupa and then hit the road for an exciting drive through Kardung la Pass, the highest road in the world. You’ll never forget the intense combination of thrill and fear.
Day 16
Lamayuru–Kargil
Today you’ll be mesmerized by the landscapes on the drive to Kargil. The winding roads clinging to the steep hills embody man’s indomitable desire to conquer nature.
Day 17
Kargil – Srinagar
As we continue our drive towards the picturesque city of Srinagar, you will witness a drastic change in the landscape. The natural beauty of Zoji La Pass (3547 m) will keep you in awe as you pass through Drass and Sonamarg before arriving at your destination.
Day 18
Srinagar
A captivating day of sightseeing in this beautiful city situated on the banks of the Jhelum River. We’ll start with the three Mughal Gardens, Nishat, Shalimar and Chashmashahi. The exuberance of colour will leave you hypnotized and at peace. Later we’ll go for a Shikara ride on the Dal Lake and visit the wondrous floating gardens.
Day 19
Srinagar
Drive through the lush meadows of Gulmarg. Known for having some of the best ski slopes in India, it is also home to the world’s highest golf course. You can take a cable car ride to the top of the hill to get the best possible view of this stunning little town.
Day 20
Srinagar
Another drive filled with beauty, the vivacious saffron fields on the road to Pahalgam are a sight to behold. Better known as the Valley of Shepherds, our journey through this majestic region will take us to the Awantipura ruins, which boasts a 1100 year old temple built by King Awantiwarman in dedication to the Lord Vishnu. This will undoubtedly be one of the most scenic journeys you’ll ever experience.
Day 21
Srinagar – Delhi – Home
The journey comes to an end. After flying from Srinagar to Delhi, it will finally be time to catch your flight home. Reminisce about the many magical moments you experienced over the last three weeks, and look forward to your next trip back to Mother India.
