Detailed Journey
Day 1
Arrive Delhi
Arrive Delhi. You will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon witness the epochal eras that went into making it a grand city. You have option of visiting some ancient sites, or watching the medieval grandeur or for that matter sightseeing of some colonial edifices or may be revel in its cultural potpourri in the old bazaars.
Day 2
Delhi - Guwahati
Fly to Guwahati and check into your hotel on arrival. Evening is at your leisure. Called the Gateway to the Northeast it is known for its rich culture, dance and silk weaving. In the pre-modern times the hinterlandareas, which were difficult to access, developed as centre of secret sects.
Day 3
Guwahati
Visit Sualkuchi, famous for its silk weaving industry. You can also be the witness to the process that involves rearing of silk worms, to the making of yarns and ultimately watch it being converted into fabric. Later visit Hajo, which has shrines of three major religions—Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism.
Day 4
Guwahati–SamdrupJongkhar
Drive to the Bhutanese border at Samdrup Jongkhar in the south-eastern part of Bhutan. The place is known to have come big after the construction of Samdrup-Jongkhar-Tashigang National Highway in 1960. It is also one of the most important trading cities of Bhutan.
Day 5
SamdrupJongkhar - Trashigang
Continue by road to Trashigang. It will take most of the day. The drive on the road that brought fame and wealth to the region is a scenic experience. Often you would stop to revel in the nature and take some picture for the memories back home.
Day 6
Trashigang
Situated in the eastern part of Bhutan, Trashigang is located near the junction of two rivers – DragmeChhu and Gamre. Visit GomKora, ChortenKora and TrashiYangtse. Afternoon is exclusively dedicated for the exploration of Trashigang.
Day 7
Trashigang - Mongar
Drive to Mongar via Drametse Gompa. The distance of about 90 km takes more than 3 hours but the lolling mountain fields in the backdrop of high mountains make every moment worth it. Visit MongarDzong, rebuilt in 1963,which is a sight to behold.
Day 8
Mongar – Jakar, Bumthang Valley
Drive to the Bumthang Valley. The 192 km journey taking almost 7 hours will take the entire day. However, the great views, majestic landscape and towering monuments will compensate for the fairly long drive. Stop as many times as you like to take pictures.
Day 9
Jakar, Bumthang Valley
Known for its fortress, Jakar means ‘white bird.’ Situated in the Bumthang district the region is strewn with ancient temples and highly sacred sites. At Jakar you will walk in the precincts of Thangbi Temple situated at the altitude of 2730 m. Later visit JakarDzong.

Day 10
JakarBumthang Valley - Phobjikha
Take the road to Gangtey. Halt en route at TrongsaDzong. Moving at a leisurely pace of 30-35 km/hr maneuvering the mountainous road will turn your drive into a pleasure filled experience. The scenic countryside is very beautiful and watching the vista as it unfolds is a mesmerizing sight.
Day 11
Phobjikha
A leisurely trip.Phobjikha is a huge U-shaped glacial valley known for its black necked cranes and its marshland. A paradise for the bird watchers walk the TenkhorYuetshe Sum Trail and visit the black-necked crane research centre.
Day 12
Phobjikha - Punakha
After a leisurely breakfast drive back towards the western part of Bhutan to Phobjikha, which will take about 3 hours. Stay here for the night witnessing the sounds of the silence.Enjoy doing nothing seated by a traditional bukhari stove as night approaches.
Day 13
Punakha
Start your day with a walk from Nobgang to Punakha. In the afternoon, visit the PunakhaDzong. A leisurely walk in the beautiful in the Punakha valley. You can also do a day’s trek from Lumukha Village. Interact with the people and converse with them.
Day 14
Punakha -Thimphu
Finally you reach the Bhutan’s capital city. In the afternoon explore the amazing heritage of Thimphu, which includes Royal Palace, Dzongs and other heritage sites. Besides, you will also relish the amazing food and get to know the life and culture of the place.
Day 15
Thimphu - Paro
Drive to Paro, a short drive away. Paro is a modern city with medieval roots. Get to know Bhutan’s Buddhist moorings, revel in the city’s architecture and cherish some spectacular landscapes. You will also visit ParoDzong and Ta Dzong.
Day 16
Paro
Relish the adventure of the steep climb to the magnificent Tiger’s Nest Monastery. It undoubtedly is an amazing sight. Situation at the edge of a mountain with high mountain walls on the other side it makes for magnificent picture as well. Later visit DrukgyelDzong.
Day 17
Paro - Kolkata
Fly back to Kolkata. In the afternoon you can visit Victoria Memorial. Later drive to the Howrah Bridge and afterwards visit Mother Teresa’s Ashram. You can also visit “Kumartuli” and interact with the local potter’s community, if time permits.
Day 18
Kolkata - Departure
Drive to the airport to board your plane to back home. As your flight takes off and soars in the sky you will find yourself in the grip of nostalgia wondering when you can get back again and lose yourself in the leisurely Bhutanese pace of life.
